Maritime Labour Convention: Marshall Islands authorizes GL

The Republic of the Marshall Islands extends the scope of Germanischer Lloyd's (GL) authorization as Recognized Organization to carry out inspections and issue certificates under the Maritime Labour Convention, 2006 (MLC 2006). GL offers ship owners, managers and yards a comprehensive ILO certification package in order to meet the requirements and speed up the issuing of a compulsive certificate by 2011. The MLC 2006 has been introduced by the International Labour Organisation (ILO). All vessels of 500 GT or above on international voyages will need to demonstrate a valid MLC 2006 certificate.

Damen introduce 'Patriot', a promising new addition to the ASD range

In November 2009 the Damen Shipyards Changde in China delivered the powerful and compact harbour tug Patriot, the first of a pair of identical tugs built for use in the Ukraine. Patriot, and sister ship Bulat completed two month later, were ordered by Tekom Leasing Ltd, the end-user of this tug is Odessa Sea Commercial Port. The tugs are the first examples of the ASD Tug 2310 design, a promising new addition to the comprehensive range of ASD tugs Damen can now offer tugowners.

IHC Metalix achieves ISO 9001 certification

IHC Metalix B.V., one of IHC Merwede’s business units, successfully achieved NEN-EN-ISO 9001:2008 quality certification at the end of last year. This was formally awarded to the company’s management and the entire ISO-team at their base in Kinderdijk, The Netherlands by Freek Blanke of Det Norske Veritas (DNV) on 9 February 2010.

Damen's ‘Stan Tug’ range takes a big step forward

The development of the well-known ‘Damen Stan Tug’ range of tug-workboats has a history that dates back to the formation of Damen Shipyards as we know it today. In those early days, commencing in 1969, among the most important products selected as ‘standard’ designs for serial production were the Pushy Cat and original versions of the Stan Tug.

Nakilat and Damen Shipyards Group Join Forces

Qatar Gas Transport Company Ltd. (Nakilat) has signed a joint venture agreement with Damen Shipyards Qatar Holding B.V., a wholly owned subsidiary of Damen Shipyards Group, to jointly operate a world-class shipbuilding facility in the Port of Ras Laffan, Qatar.
